Een paar maanden geleden kreeg ik een berichtje dat de partner van mijn vader graag contact met mij wilde. Nu moet je weten dat mijn vader al in 1989 is overleden en niet veel later het contact met Nel, want zo heet ze, verwaterde. We konden het toentertijd super goed met elkaar vinden, maar ze begon na zijn dood haar verdriet te verdrinken en veranderde daardoor in een boze, gefrustreerde en verbaal agressieve vrouw. En ergens in dat proces hebben we elkaar losgelaten…..
Maar fast forward naar 2023 wilde ze mij graag weer zien, want ze had kanker en niet lang meer te leven.
Het weerzien was warm en liefdevol. Ik zag een vrouw die het wel anders had gewild, maar niet was gelukt. Een vrouw die nog steeds over het leven met mijn vader sprak, alsof er geen 34 jaar tussen zat. Een vrouw die al die jaren haar verdriet en eenzaamheid had verdoofd en nu troost vond bij de gedachte dat ze snel weer met hem herenigd zou worden.
Ik voelde zoveel compassie voor haar en dacht ook;
